Nottinghamshire County Council Elections- 1st May 2025

Dear Stakeholder,

Elections are taking place on Thursday 1 May for the Nottinghamshire County Council elections. We want to make sure as many Broxtowe residents across the Borough are able to vote, so please share this information with your service users. If you require more information from us, or would like any of the information in a different language or format please let us know. It would also be really helpful to know how you use this information so if you are able to get back in touch with us to let us know, that would be great.

Voter ID

To vote at a polling station on the day, photo ID is needed. Accepted forms of photo ID include:

  • Passport
  • Driving Licence – including provisional driving licence
  • A Blue Badge
  • Older Person’s Buss Pass
  • Disabled Person’s Bus Pass

You can find a full list at Accepted forms of photo ID | Electoral Commission

If a resident doesn’t have an accepted form of photo ID, they can apply for free, but must do so by 5pm on Wednesday 23 April at Apply for photo ID to vote (called a ‘Voter Authority Certificate’) – GOV.UK

Voting by Post

Postal votes are on their way to electors for the upcoming elections on Thursday 1 May.

Completed postal votes can now only be accepted if:

  • They are returned via Royal Mail
  • Or they are ‘handed in’ at a polling station or the Council Offices and are accompanied by a completed ‘return of postal voting documents’ form.
  • Any postal votes that are left at a polling station or the Council Offices without a completed form must be rejected.

There is also a limit on the number of postal votes a person can hand in – voters will not be allowed to hand in more than five postal ballot packs for other electors plus their own.

If you have any questions about postal voting please contact Electoral Services on 0115 917 3294 or elections@broxtowe.gov.uk

Voting by Proxy

If choosing to vote by proxy, the deadline to apply is 5pm on Wednesday 23 April at Apply for a proxy vote – GOV.UK

Information for Voters with Disabilities

Voting in a polling station

We aim to make polling stations as accessible as possible by:

  • Using venues that are accessible to all, wherever possible.
  • Ensuring all polling stations have at least one low level polling booth.
  • Providing 2 large print copies of the ballot papers, one placed on display and one for voters to look at before completing their own ballot paper.
  • Providing an A5 magnifier to help with reading the ballot paper.
  • Allowing electors to use text-to-speech apps or magnifying apps on their mobile phones that will assist them to vote independently. Using mobile phones for making calls or taking photographs or selfies in polling stations is not permitted.
  • Providing a tactile voting device to help voters who are blind or partially sighted mark their own ballot paper with assistance, if needed.

Who can provide assistance to voters?

If you need help with voting, you can ask:

  • A trusted companion who is over the age of 18.
  • The Presiding Officer at your polling station.

Residents can contact our Elections Team to discuss their needs further on 0115 917 3294.

Many thanks,

Aurora Picardo
