A tribute to Ray Darby

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Councillor Ray Darby.

A long serving Councillor and resident of Stapleford, Ray was elected to the position of Town Mayor of Stapleford 3 times, finishing his last term in July this year. It’s almost as if the role of Mayor was written for him. Ray had a natural ability to connect with people and he could just light up a room as soon as he entered. He was a true gentleman with integrity who never stopped working for the community he served. We have lost one of our shining lights and his family are in all of our thoughts.

Everyone will have their own stories about Ray and how he touched their lives. He volunteered for a number of causes including teaching children to play badminton. We have put together a collection of memorable moments to celebrate Ray’s work in the community for the Town Council. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Remembrance Day Reminder

Residents are urged to remain at home and not to gather at the Town Square for Remembrance. There is no service being performed today – stay tuned for our videos and head out to your doorstep to stand in the national silence for the fallen.

Remembrance Sunday 2020

Due to the Covid pandemic and lockdown restrictions the Council has cancelled the usual parade and event for Remembrance Sunday. Instead the Council has produced a number of videos which will be released through the week and on the day to help us remember the fallen. Residents are urged to stay at home and remember the fallen in their own way or by taking part in the national doorstep silence.
